Approved Research Project Scope

The approved project scope for this application is:
We aim to study the hierarchical organization of the brain networks. Our overarching aim is to interrogate gene-brain-function relationship in the healthy brain. This in turn will translate our findings to a normative brain biomarker to measure the deviations from a healthy brain in neurological disorders. We will use this baseline measure to study (i) neurodegenerative disorders, (ii) neuropsychiatric disorders, and (iii) neuroinformatics. (I) We aim to study healthy brain aging as well as neurodegeneration using UK biobank dataset in conjunction with other targeted datasets at two different levels: (1) Using epidemiological and genomic data, we will develop disease biomarkers and predict the emergence and progression of neurodegenerative disorders. (2) Using computational modeling, we aim to study the causal mechanisms underlying brain aging in healthy and clinical populations. (II) We aim to study the brain correlates of mental disorders. We will identify a neuroimaging signature distinguishing each neuropsychiatric condition, and model how the specific structural/functional patterns relate to the underlying environmental/genetic risk factors. (III) We aim to develop tools, measures, and standards for data organization and statistical analysis. These outcomes will be made publicly available which will advance our goal of reproducible analysis in neuroimaging and genetics.

Specific Conditions

Access Sub-Committee additional comments: None This application is approved for access to certain COVID-19 related data-fields. We need to draw the following restriction to your attention, namely that use of Primary Care data has been enabled under a Control of Patient Information (COPI) notice [https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-notification-of-data-controllers-to-share-information/coronavirus-covid-19-notice-under-regulation-34-of-the-health-service-control-of-patient-information-regulations-2002-biobank] and this stipulates that the Primary Care data can only be used for purposes related to research into COVID-19. The other COVID-19 datasets have no such restriction and can be used for the purposes of your application, in the same manner as any of the other data that UK Biobank has provided. Approved to receive Home Location 1km data fields 32223 and 32224

2022-08-05 Extend duration I would like to extend the duration of this project as ongoing projects for my team and collaborators have extended beyond the initial 36 months granted and access to the available data is still needed for project work. Please advise if further information should be required.
2023-10-24 Extend duration The UK Biobank continues to be an signiifcant and active data resource for our researchers, with numerous ongoing research projects. Therefore we are requesting an extension to the duration of our project so that those research activities can continue. Once a quotation is received we will then proceed to initiate payment. Thank you.
